Two-time BMX world champion and Olympic silver medallist Sam Willoughby stands as a true testament to the power of resilience and determination.
In 2016, Sam suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury after a routine training session left him with tetraplegia, a type of paralysis affecting both his arms and legs.
Since his injury, Sam has channeled his determination into his rehabilitation. and was able to fulfill a significant personal goal in 2019: walking down the aisle to marry his wife, Alise, a fellow Olympic medalist and pro BMX rider.
Since then, Willoughby has transitioned from competing to coaching through his program Strength by 91. Sam applies his coaching expertise as Alise’s coach.
