GUEST

Matthew Murphy

Matthew Murphy, or ‘Murph’, has a self-professed awkward vibe, which apparently dogs and children can pick up on. In spite of this, or perhaps because of it, Murph is 1/3 of the prolific and iconic UK band The Wombats, as well as having a successful solo career.

Murph began playing guitar at the age of 5, with a dad who loved classical guitar.

After playing in a lot of bands all throughout high school, Murph attended Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, where he met his bandmates.

Murph co-founded The Wombats in 2003, and they released several Eps before the first full-length album Girls, Boys and Marsupials which was released in 2006, but only in Japan.

The Wombats hit the mainstream with their major-label debut studio album A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. This album featured the track, “Let’s Dance to Joy Division,” which peaked at number 11 on the UK Albums Chart.

The Wombats Ep was released in 2008, This Modern Glitch in 2010 and Glitterbug in 2013. Two further albums Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life and Fix Yourself, Not the World were released in 2017, and 2021 respectively.

In 2018, Murph released his solo-project Love Fame Tragedy, and in 2024, Murph released a follow-up solo-project Life Is A Killer.

Murph spends most of his time in LA, with his wife Akemi. They have two gorgeous girls together, Dylan and Kai.
